About BYD

Founded in 1995 as a pioneer in battery technology, BYD’s mission is to change the world by creating a complete, clean-energy ecosystem that reduces the world’s reliance on fossil fuels.

BYD Group

From twenty people to a global company

BYD Company Ltd. is one of China’s largest privately owned enterprises. Since its inception in 1995 it developed solid expertise in rechargeable batteries and became a relentless advocate of sustainable development, expanding its renewable energy solutions to operations in over 50 countries and regions.

Its Zero Emissions Energy Ecosystem — affordable solar power generation, reliable energy storage and electrified transport — has made it a leader in the energy and transportation sectors.

BYD in Europe

Twenty years on European roads

BYD has been established in Europe for over twenty years. Its pure electric buses already run in more than 20 countries and 100 major European cities, a significant step towards making public transport emission free. BYD Europe B.V. is headquartered in Schiedam, the Netherlands, with further locations in the United Kingdom and in Komárom, Hungary.

Corporate social responsibility

Never stop doing good work

Alongside cleaner energy and transport, BYD takes part in public efforts: disaster relief, support for education, contributions to social welfare, and sponsorship of culture and sport.

  • Education

BYD has donated to numerous primary schools in China, and in November 2009 supported 33 schools in poverty-stricken areas of Guangdong. It funds scholarships at Zhongnan University for 100 students and 10 teachers, and established the BYD Children’s Welfare Institution.

  • Disaster relief

After the destructive earthquake of 2008 BYD donated over 12 million euros and released 1,000 hoisting jacks from new cars, flown in by the army for use at the rescue sites. It later invested in rebuilding schools, organised staff fund-raising, and took on more than 40 graduates from the affected area.
