The partnership with the IHF Women’s World Championship follows the path of BYD Sweden, who earlier in 2023 became the official partner to the Swedish Handball National Team. BYD strengthens its involvement with handball and its joint commitment with the sport to advance equality, community activation and sustainability initiatives. The 2023 World Handball Championship, organised together by the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian Handball Federations, places sustainability at the forefront of its mission, providing a perfect match for BYD as the Official Automotive Partner. With its commitment to technological innovation, BYD strives to accelerate the transition to electrified mobility.

As an official, industry-exclusive partner to the competition, BYD will be highly visible through a range of exposure opportunities and activation in connection with the tournament matches and their host city venues. BYD will showcase its electric models to handball fans and a fleet of BYD cars will provide official transportation to VIP guests and event officials.
Michael Shu, Managing Director, BYD Europe, said: “BYD is proud to be part of the excitement and spectacle of the 26th IHF Women’s World Championship. Women’s handball is characterised by the energy, passion and dedication of its players as they chase their dreams. We see a great parallel to our passion and dedication to achieve the shared dream of a cleaner, more sustainable future with electric mobility. We’re proud to tangibly contribute to the sustainability goals of the event and connect with handball audiences throughout the tournament. We look forward to joining engaged fans from all over the world to cheer on these amazing athletes.”
Dr. Hassan Moustafa, President of IHF, commented: “As in the IHF we work towards more sustainable competitions, it is a proud moment to partner up with organisations like BYD that excel in achieving sustainability in their field. We and the IHF TV and Marketing Rights Partner SPORTFIVE warmly welcome BYD to the 26th IHF Women's World Championship.”
As the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles, BYD has sold more than 2 million NEV cars worldwide in 2023. BYD, a Fortune Global 500 corporation, is also the first OEM to deliver 5 million NEVs globally, reaffirming its position as the world’s top-selling NEV brand and top 10 car brand worldwide.
Scheduled to take place across Denmark, Norway, and Sweden from November 29 to December 17, 2023, the IHF Women's World Championship promises to be a monumental event. The tournament, spanning six cities and numerous venues, will feature a diverse roster of 32 teams competing at the highest level of international handball. In the pursuit of excellence, both on and off the court, the event organisers have set their sights on championing sustainability in every aspect of the championship.
